1. Scope and controller
This Privacy Policy applies to Ocean's Android and iOS applications, website, support operations, and related services. The Ocean Team is responsible for the personal data described here unless another notice says otherwise.
Use the Contact Us page or the privacy contact listed there for privacy questions and requests.
2. Information you provide
We collect information you submit when creating, completing, or editing an account and when communicating through Ocean.
- Account and sign-in data, such as an internal account identifier, email address, mobile number, sign-in method, verification state, and account role.
- Profile data, such as full name, date of birth, age, gender, zodiac, interests, profile details, city, state or province, country, and formatted location.
- Profile images and gallery images, including upload content type, file size, integrity hash, dimensions, and processing state.
- Matching preferences and actions, including distance or gender preferences, likes, passes, ignored profiles, matches, and block choices.
- Messages, reactions, reports, and other content shared with members or support.
- Terms acceptance, profile-completion state, permissions, and consent choices.
3. Location information
Ocean may process city, region, country, formatted address, and approximate coordinates to provide location-aware discovery and profile context. If you grant device permission and consent, we may process precise latitude and longitude.
You can deny or withdraw precise-location permission through your device settings. Some discovery, distance, or location features may then be limited. Other members should receive profile-level location context rather than unrestricted access to your raw precise coordinates.
4. Information collected automatically
When you use Ocean, our applications and service providers may generate technical and usage records needed to operate, secure, and understand the service.
- IP address, request timing, app version, operating system, platform, and device or installation identifiers.
- Notification-delivery identifiers, delivery state, and unread counts.
- Usage events such as profile impressions, likes, match activity, message quota, session state, errors, and security signals.
- Advertising identifiers and ad interaction data where advertising is enabled and permitted by your settings and applicable law.
5. How we use information
We use personal data to provide and responsibly operate Ocean. Depending on the context and applicable law, processing is based on performance of our agreement, consent, legitimate interests, or legal obligations.
- Create and authenticate accounts, maintain sessions, and protect access to the service.
- Build profiles, process media, provide discovery, apply preferences, calculate approximate distance, and create mutual matches.
- Deliver messages, reactions, presence, read states, notifications, and support responses.
- Enforce quotas, provide rewarded-ad features, and administer subscriptions or account plans where available.
- Detect abuse, fraud, prohibited automation, security incidents, and violations of our Terms.
- Debug, measure, maintain, and improve reliability, accessibility, localization, and product performance.
- Comply with law, preserve evidence, resolve disputes, and protect users, Ocean, and the public.
6. What other members can see
Profile information is intended to be shown to eligible Ocean members as part of discovery and matching. Depending on your profile and product state, this can include your name, age, gender, zodiac, interests, profile and gallery images, profile-level location, presence, and interaction status.
Matched members can see messages and associated timestamps, reactions, delivery or read state, and relevant conversation status. They may capture or retain content independently, so share carefully.
8. Service providers
Ocean works with service providers that help operate the apps, manage sign-in, deliver photos and notifications, support location features, process purchases, measure performance, provide customer support, and show advertising where those features are available.
These providers process data under their own security and privacy terms and only for the purposes needed to support Ocean. The provider set can vary by platform, location, and feature availability.
9. Media security and delivery
Profile and gallery photos are checked and processed before being stored with restricted access. Ocean limits photo delivery to authorized use instead of making account media openly available.
No storage or transmission system is perfectly secure. Do not upload images containing secrets, identity documents, financial information, or details that reveal a sensitive location.
10. Advertising
Some Ocean versions may display advertising or offer a rewarded advertisement to replenish a feature quota. Advertising providers may receive device, advertising, consent, network, and interaction information as allowed by platform settings and applicable law.
You can use device privacy and advertising settings to limit personalization or reset an advertising identifier. Limiting personalization may not remove all ads.
11. Retention
We retain account and service data while your account is active and for as long as reasonably needed to provide Ocean. After deletion, we remove or de-identify data according to operational schedules, subject to backups, fraud prevention, safety investigations, payment records, legal holds, dispute resolution, and other lawful requirements.
Retention periods differ by data type and purpose. We keep data no longer than reasonably necessary, taking account of sensitivity, risk, operational requirements, and legal obligations.
12. International processing
Ocean and its providers may process information in countries other than where you live. Those countries may have different privacy laws. Where required, we use contractual, technical, or organizational safeguards for international transfers.
13. Security
We use safeguards appropriate to the service, including protected sign-in, access controls, restricted photo storage, validation, monitoring, and separation between testing and live operations.
Security is shared: protect your device and account, use unique credentials, do not share verification codes, and notify us if you suspect unauthorized access.
14. Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, or receive a copy of personal data, and to withdraw consent. You may edit available profile fields in the app and manage notification, location, and advertising permissions through app or device settings.
- While signed in, open Edit Profile and select Delete Account to delete your account directly. Use the Account Deletion page if you can no longer access the app, or Contact Us for another privacy request.
- Submit the request from the email connected to your account when possible.
- We may verify identity and may decline or limit a request where permitted by law, including to protect another person's rights, prevent fraud, or preserve legal claims.
- Withdrawing consent does not affect processing already lawfully completed.
15. Children
Ocean is only for adults aged 18 or older and is not directed to children. If you believe a minor has created an account or appears in prohibited content, contact us promptly so we can investigate and take appropriate action.
16. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy as Ocean, our providers, or legal requirements change. We will revise the effective date and provide additional notice where a change is material or law requires it.
17. Contact
Use Contact Us for privacy questions, rights requests, or safety concerns. Delete your account directly from Edit Profile when signed in, or use the dedicated Account Deletion page when you can no longer access the app.
